Visit at Imperial palace (京都御所 Kyōto-gosho), park around it and shogun's fortress - Nijou castle (二条城).

Shugakuin imperial villa (修学院離宮) and walking Kyoto outskirts

2. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 3rd day

Kiyomizudera (清水寺) and temples to the north. Walking along Kamo river (鴨川) and night visit of Nijou castle (with concert on koto).

3. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 4th day

Ryoanji (龍安寺) and other zen temples in north Kyoto. And after that one of the most famous historical buildings in Kyoto - golden pavilon Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺) and other temples in vicinity.

4. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 5th day - first part

Katsura imperial villa (桂離宮 Katsura Rikyū). One of two villas that can be visited with tour from Imperial Household Agency. It consist of large garden with several tea houses and of course main villa.

4. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 5th day - second part

Going east from Katsura villa and then climbing mountain that houses Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社) - head shrine of fox goddes Inari.

5. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 6th day

Bycicle trip to Arashiyama (嵐山) that is located in north-west Kyoto near Katsura river. Notable stops are Daikaku-ji (大覚寺) and Tenryu-ji (天龍寺) temples. On the way back we took detour and followed Katsura river to the south.

6. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 7th day

Trip to nara - we visited giant wooden temple Todaiji (東大寺) and then roamed nearby park including botanical garden and Kasuga Taisha (春日大社) shrine. All around the park there are lots of shika deers that were once almost extinct but now they prosper and hunt tourists for crackers that can be bought in local vending machines.

7. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 8th day

Okayama city. We visited Crow castle (烏城). It was destroyed and then fully reconstructed after second world war and now it serves as museum with samurai swords, amors and other. Under the castle there is Kōraku-en (後楽園) garden, which is considered one of three most beutiful gardens in all Japan.

8. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 9th day

Silver pavilon - Ginkaku-ji (銀閣寺) and then walk through Philosopher path (哲学の道 Tetsugaku-no-michi) that leads south to Nanzen-ji temple. Then we took a little pause at hotel and after that we went to see Kiyomizu-dera (清水寺), this time beautifully lighten-up at night. Too bad that my compact camera couldn't do it justice - it was one of my best experiences in japan.

9. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 10th day

Trip to Hikone (彦根市) - a small city located at the coast of lake Biwa. We visited Hikone Castle one of the oldest original-construction castles in Japan. Castle is in really great condition with museum and great garden.

10. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 11th, 12th and 13th day

Three days that I didnt take many photos. We visited baseball batting center - for me it was first time holding batting bat :). Then we traveled to Tokyo and Kamakura. Muhe bought new camera in Tokyo(東京) but attached lenses poorly and many photos from great day in Kamakura (鎌倉市) were unusable. We spent night in familly ryokan and eaten diner together with other guests mostly students. Next day we traveled to mountain city of Kusatsu (草津町), where we wanted to relax for a few days in onsens.

13. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 14th day

Spa city of Kusatsu (草津町). Tour around town and to nearby waterfall. Photos taken by Muhe, because I was at hotel working on my semestral project that was due.

14. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 15th day

Spa city of Kusatsu (草津町). Second trip around a town and to local onsen. Voyage with shinkanzen to Tokyo (東京) and then to hotel at Yokohama (横浜市).

15. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 16th day

Another day I lost working on my semestral project. Luckily it was last I spent on my school work. Muhe went for walking trip around Yokohama (横浜市).

16. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 17th day

We spent this day with Michal Preuss, our long-time friend and classmate. He was working in Tokyo as intern thanks to EU student exchange project. We walked around the Tokyo (東京)and visited lots of places - Harajuku (原宿), Shibuya (渋谷), Shinjuku (新宿).

17. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 18th day

This day we went to Ueno (上野) - one of Tokyo districts. We went to see Ueno park and visited local shrines. Then we continued to local famous open-air market district. In the evening we relocated to Shibuya (渋谷) where we had tabehoudai sukiyaki (all you can eat hotpot) for diner.

18. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 19th day - first part

Our second trip around Kamakura (鎌倉市) temples. First one is poorly documented (10.4.), so this time we both took photos of everything :). We got off train from Tokio at Kita-Kamakura station (北鎌倉駅) and went by foot to Kamakura city. Of the temples we visited most notable is one of the most important Zen Buddhist temple Engaku-ji (円覚寺) and Rinzai Zen temple Meigetsu-in (福源山明月院).

18. 4. 2011 - Japan 2011 - 19th day - second part

We left main road and passed through beutiful Kenchō-ji (建長寺) temple as we started climbing the hills surrounding Kamakrura (鎌倉市). Stairs to the last part of temple were magnificent - on top long stairs through forest slope were statues of crow demons, Tengu, guarding the way. From there we took small mountain path through forests and after few kilometers we arrived to Zuisei-ji temple (錦屏山瑞泉寺). From there we went to Kamakura city and returned by train to Yokohama where we had hotel.
